Expansion of the dean's office system to include a supervisor and student module.

Project


The customer needed a system that would enable students to select and register for a seminar with a specific supervisor. Such an IT solution should support the staff in the dean's office, automate student support and help the supervisors with their offers. The student module serves students as a source of information about the supervisor - registration for the seminar, overview of supervisors and research topics or information about counselling sessions.

Solution


The entire process was carried out according to the agile methodology. A team of 10 people was hired to work on two modules of the application.

Module Supervisor

  • the first, in which the thesis supervisor prepares a proposal for themselves, including information about their research interests,
  • the second, in which the student can choose a supervisor for themselves, with an access to the information entered by the thesis supervisor

The module is integrated into the Dean's Office system.

Student module - as soon as the selection of supervisors and seminar topics begins, the student has the opportunity to register with the selected thesis supervisor. The system supports various selection rounds: Students with better grades are entered first, then those with lower grades. There are also a limited number of places for students who can be supervised by a specific supervisor. The Dean's Office oversees everything and has access to all information. At the end of a selection round, the system informs the students about the selected supervisor and the status of their work.

Process


At Softiq, we work according to the Scrum methodology. For most projects, we work in an agile way on the basis of drafts. This method enables the team to organise itself and thus increase its efficiency and shorten the delivery time of the finished product, which is very important for both us and the customer.

The implementation of the project in phases:

  • Brainstorming, planning
  • Figma mockups, creation of user stories, determination of core app functionalities
  • Analysis and setup of the AWS
  • Design implementation
  • Fine tuning of details and optimisation
